Charity Magic The Gathering tournament to be held in Roseville! Michael Hetrick will be donating a Shaharazad and A-1 Comics Roseville will be donating a Baneslayer Angel.

This event will be on Friday August 27th @ 6pm and will only be $5 to enter! Anyone can donate what they want towards his trip. We will have a donation can at our front register in Roseville.

The following is a letter written to us by one of our loyal Customers Michael Hetrick explaining the charity Tournament:

My name is Michael Hetrick. I’ve been playing the game of Magic: the Gathering for almost 8 years now. The first time I played the game was when I was at A-1 Comics (old school location on Douglas) with Craig Patterson and he wanted to show me how to play. At the time I was an avid Yu-Gi-Oh player and didn’t really know anything about Magic. Craig and I both bought a Onslaught preconstructed deck so he could show me how to play. We played a few games while I tried to get the hang of it. Immediately after those matches I couldn’t help but buy another precon to battle against Craig some more. I was hooked pretty quick and shortly after sold all my Yu-Gi-Oh cards to buy Magic cards instead. I’ve come a long way since then (and Craig has moved on to WOW TCG )

In the first few years I battled my way through Junior Super Series events at A-1 earning myself $2,500 in scholarships. These were the first events that got me really involved in the competitive scene, but I’ve found that winning really isn’t everything there is to this game. I’ve met a ton of great friends along the way and shared fun times at lots of events. Truly this is what makes Magic such a great game and is the reason I’ve continued to play it over the years. But finally, in this past year I’ve started to really excel in the pro Magic scene. I top 32nd Grand Prix: Oakland, got second at a 5K (earning $1,000), qualified for 2 Pro Tours (San Juan and Amsterdam), and while I didn’t do very well in the main event in San Juan, I still had an amazing trip (and managed to win an iPad in a side event!). I’ve also made a name for myself in the Magic Online world (that name being _ShipItHolla). So here I am now preparing for PT Amsterdam and A-1 Comics has generously offered to raise funds for me for my trip to Amsterdam! I am incredibly grateful to those who participate and especially to A-1 Comics.
